Snapshots from the Studio
Every Sleeping Dogs Studio item is completely unique and one-of-a-kind. Don and Carolyn Madvig pride themselves on the fact that all of their art objects are made through a painstaking process that includes looking through hundreds of pieces of paper and a huge variety of embellishments—fibers, rubber-stamped images, postage stamps, found objects, handmade papers, vintage photos—until finding just the right combination.
Their goal is to recycle and elevate everyday objects into lovely pieces of art that are reasonably priced—and thus available to all.
Sleeping Dogs Studio is located in the university town of Bloomington, Indiana, where owners Don and Carolyn Madvig have lived with their son and “sleeping dogs” for the last twenty-one years.
Don has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Illinois, and along with working as a full- and part-time soccer coach, has been a freelance painter and illustrator since 1983. His works are held in private collections throughout the United States and have won numerous awards.
Carolyn, an English Literature major and graduate of Monmouth College (IL), has been exposed to art all of her life, having grown up in a household with a mother and brother who are both professional artists.
