Inspiration…

Saturday, March 26, 2011

I’ve posted before on this topic, as I’m never sure exactly where inspiration is going to come from at any given moment!  Sometimes I think it’s merely a compilation of what I’m enjoying lately, and how that leads to new projects and ideas.  Running through the mind at the moment are:

* The Ovation Channel – I highly recommend it if you can get it.  We’ve seen so many fascinating documentaries and specials on the art field lately.  You can see more at www.ovationtv.com.  From up and coming photographers to shows on the masters, you’ll learn things about art and artists that are truly inspirational…

* zappos.com – cute commercials, great shoes and more!  These are the latest I’m coveting…maybe it’s the blue suede?!  They make me want to make spring, blue frames and boxes!

Rieker, Blanche #3″

* I also recommend “The Civil Wars” latest CD “Barton Hollow”.  Beautiful harmonies, lovely folk music with a “blue-sy” feel.  Makes you feel mellow and inspired but doesn’t put you to sleep.  Great music to listen to while working.

Hope you find your own inspiration out there!

The Kentucky Crafted Show

Monday, March 21, 2011

What a wonderful group of artists and friends we saw – and made! – at the 2011 Kentucky Crafted Show!

The Sleeping Dogs Studio Booth

It was great to be with our fellow Indiana Artisans who were exhibiting, as well as to meet new artisans, exchange ideas, and have a delectable homemade turtle pecan or two!

It is definitely worth your while to click below to see just a few of the other artisans and foodmakers who were participating:

We have the lucky opportunity to return the favor as Indiana will be hosting its first wholesale/retail marketplace in April – see more on the “Events” section of the blog…

…is our last day of prep before heading off to what “Artisan Style” readers have voted the best craft fair in the country – Kentucky Market, in Louisville, KY.  For those interested in attending, you can see more about the event on the Blog under the sub-heading of “Events.

In the meanwhile, here’s the studio today – a little chaotic!

Update on “A Place to Bark”

Sunday, March 13, 2011

Many of you have requested an update on the amazing no-kill shelter that artist and animal savior Bernie Berlin runs on her farm in Tennessee.  She continues to accomplish the improbable with the help of many dedicated animal professionals and volunteers.

From Bernie's Blog (link below)

Over 700 dogs were saved by her work over the past year – proving that once you set your mind to something, you are truly unstoppable.

You can find out more on her blog at:

THIS is an effort that is making a difference…

…to all of you who expressed condolences at Jasmine’s passing.  She’s in a better place, and we miss her, but knew it was for the best, as her health was suffering toward the end.

Owen has finally settled into a new routine without her over the last ten days or so – no more wandering around the house wondering where she is, etc.  For the first 2 days, I swear he was depressed, and he didn’t eat much.  But he seems to have accepted the inevitable now, and is returning to his usual cheerful self.

I appreciate all of your support, and as we embark upon some big art shows coming up (including a 4-day art fair in Louisville in 10 days), it has proven very helpful to keep busy!  :)

All our best,

Carolyn, Don & Owen
