When my husband and I moved into our first house in Bloomington, our son was about 5 years old. He had been waiting for this house so that he could get his own dog, and we planned to do lots of homework about what breeds of dog were best for young families.
So naturally, we walked into the shelter, and walked out again with the first puppy we saw.
That puppy was Jasmine. Our son named her after Princess Jasmine in the Disney movie “Aladdin” because even as a puppy, she had dark rims around her eyes that made her look as if she was wearing kohl eyeliner – just like Princess Jasmine.
She’s come a long way through the years. She’s now 12 years old, her muzzle is grey, and she even has a grey “skunk” streak in her tail!
She’s a good guard dog – she protects her family and her house very fiercely – particularly from squirrels and deer she sees in the yard.
She still goes to sleep on her dog pillow in my son’s room every night. And then sneaks off to the guest room so that she can take advantage of the “world’s largest dog bed” – (I’m convinced that she thinks we put this there for her) – but ONLY after she’s certain that he’s safely asleep.
Yes, she’s mellowed. But she still likes to play when she’s in the mood. On her walks, she will jump into the air the whole way home, trying to see if she can distract you enough to make you suddenly veer off into a longer walk without noticing.
And what does she do when she gets home? Well – a dog this lovely has to have her beauty sleep.

Aww – how sweet! Gotta love a dog’s life.
She is a beautiful dog!!
