Guest Artist Giveaway – Toney Robertson

I am so pleased to be able to present you with another fantastic give-away for this week – a gift to you from Toney Robertson of Galveston, Indiana.

Toney Robertson Original

This lovely wooden piece was hand-turned on a lathe by Toney in the same workshop that his father built for him as a boy - and even though the photo is lovely, it honestly doesn’t do the piece justice!  If you like clean, beautiful lines, and the warm color of finely polished wood, you will treasure this give-away.  The piece is approximately 5″ in diameter.

Toney has had his work recognized through the Indiana Artisan program,  a juried process that encourages the recognition of high quality, Indiana-made goods.

Toney comments ”“I’m a minimalist. If I could make the perfect piece, it would look like the wood grew that way in nature.”  I think you’ll agree that this piece is pretty close to perfection!

His style results in pieces with gentle curves and shallow design, which Toney says is somewhat Asian inspired. The finished product is a one-of-a-kind piece that is beautiful yet practical.

You’ll get the chance to learn even more about Toney when he answers your questions this coming Wednesday in our Guest Artist spotlight.

In the meanwhile, sign up to win this unforgettable wooden bowl by clicking on the comments section immediately below this entry (i.e., where it mentions the # of comments already made…).  As you write your comment, make sure you add in your e-mail, and the words “Give-away – 3/12″.  As usual, you will need to enter by 5 p.m. on 3/12 in order to be considered, and the winner will be selected at random.

A special thanks to Toney for his generous gift to our readers!

Love your piece. When I was a young adult, I got to play on a lathe. I appreciate the beauty of turned wood. I also agree with you “simplistic” view. “Give-away – 3/12″!

    Best wishes with your art!

I am always surprised at how soft a finished piece looks – and how when it is stroked, one forgets that wood isw solid, it simply feels so smooth and supple………. It’s a truly beautiful piece.

What a beautiful bowl! Steve used to make some stuff on a lathe and really enjoyed it. He would love this. Very nice work, Toney!!! codaughe@comcast.net – give-away – 3/12.

  5. Could you send me more information about the artist’s talk mentioned in your blog? I am going to see if I can find some images of Tony’s work. I own an art gallery in Northern Indiana and perhaps we will be able to begin representing him soon! Oh please also enter me into the drawing! Give-away – 3/12

Absolutely beautiful piece! The bowl looks like it was formed naturally. Exquisite in a simplistic form.
